Mental Health

1 in 5 of us will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year. In Australia that’s around 5 million people. And roughly 60% of these people won’t seek help. (Source: Black Dog Institute)

The world changed dramatically with the spread of Covid 19 making Mental Health a highlighted and widely discussed topic. The pandemic has caused disruptions to much needed services and it has emphasised better mental health support post pandemic by the government, community and workplaces.

According to World Health Organisation, Mental Health is a “state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.”

Beyond Blue, an Australia mental health and wellbeing support organisation, is working towards creating a better understanding of mental health.  Their primary focus is on people affected by depression, suicide and anxiety. While recognising that Mental Health is a treatable and complex issue, Beyond Blue state that “mental health is about being cognitively, emotionally and socially healthy – the way we think, feel and develop relationships – and not merely the absence of a mental health condition.”

There are a number of organisations in Australia for people that seek support. These organisations work with volunteers, donations and government to progress their work. When you buy from a Social Enterprise that supports this issue, you are also taking positive action towards supporting mental health in Australia. Thank you.
