Hands of Homelessness

This book will help those who want to understand why people experience homelessness. The more you understand, the better equipped you will be to help. It tells fifty stories narrated by fifty guests who stayed in  Dignity guest homes. Read their stories as they share with you in their own words their journey through homelessness.

At Dignity, they believe they can collaboratively end homelessness in Australia.  To do this, they empower people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to prevent, respond to and end their homelessness.

Tonight, more than 116,000 Australians will experience homelessness. It can happen to anyone. At Dignity, they provide crisis accommodation that offers a true home-like environment – complete with all the creature comforts, from home-cooked food to a comfortable bed with fresh sheets – and support to help people who are in crisis to focus on getting their lives back on track.

Dignity currently provides supported temporary accommodation and longer-term stable housing for up to 180 men, women and children every night of the year and operates multiple programs to prevent homelessness including food relief and education across Australia. Since its inception, Dignity has provided over 95,000 nights of supported temporary accommodation to people experiencing homelessness.

Dignity won the Telstra National Australian Business and Social Changemaker of the Year awards in 2019 which was the first time in the 27-year history of the awards that a charity received the top accolade.
